Bruce Bairnsfather gave his first lecture to an audience at the Queen’s Hall in London, at the end of January 1919. A year later he embarked on his first American lecture tour, under the management of Lecture Agent Lee Keedick.

In 1930 the cartoonist began what was to become a 20 year association with W. Colston Leigh, a young agent who had only established his lecture bureau the previous year.
