Fragments from France prints |

The first Bairnsfather merchandise to be
produced by The Bystander was this folio of twelve colour prints of Fragments
from France cartoons, issued in January 1916. The prints, on plate sunk
mounts measuring 9¾” x 14¾”, featured the cartoons which the magazine had
received most requests for reproductions of, from its readers. These were: The Things that Matter So Obvious Coiffure in the Trenches “Where did that one go to?” The Innocent Abroad Keeping His hand In That Evening Star-shell No Possible Doubt Whatever The Fatalist A Maxim Maxim The Thirst for Reprisals “Well, if you knows of a better ‘ole, go to
